About This Spot

Stepping into Chimes Coffee House on Church Street feels like slipping into a quietly welcoming corner of Portadown where time slows just enough to savor simple, well-crafted moments. The cozy, intimate space hums with a gentle warmth—soft lighting, a familiar buzz from the espresso machine, and the occasional clatter of cutlery creating an inviting rhythm. It’s a place where the pace encourages a deep breath, conversation, or even a moment of reflection over a steaming cup.

The humbleness of Chimes is its charm, a neighborhood spot that balances comfort and a touch of thoughtful detail. Whether you’re settling in for a relaxed breakfast or a lunch break, there’s an unhurried quality in the way the space is arranged and the way staff move—friendly, familiar, quietly attentive. It’s a small but lively nook where locals come and go with smiles, the occasional friendly banter, and the unmistakable ease of a place that feels like it belongs.

The menu at Chimes reflects this same thoughtful approach. There’s a warmth in the way breakfast arrives—pancakes that invite playful decisions between sweet or savory toppings, hearty house fries that satisfy without fuss. Lunches reveal nourishing, familiar flavors served with care, whether it’s a delicately spiced chicken curry or a fresh, satisfying sandwich. The coffee itself deserves its own quiet celebration, with each cup offering a rich, comforting steadiness that draws people back, cup after cup.

In quieter moments, visitors might savor something sweet, like a lite pavlova or tender bread pudding — comforting sittings that encourage slow enjoyment and soft smiles. The intimate décor, paired with this unpretentious menu and the rhythm of familiar faces, makes Chimes feel less like a stop on the day’s journey and more like a brief homecoming.

It's been a while since I was here and didn't know it had been taken over. The take over has definitely been for the better. Fantastic staff, really friendly and funny! The food was amazing, I'm so glad I went back and can't wait to try more of their new menu. Mine was the 2 topping options on the fresh homemade pancakes (I couldn't decide between sweet or salty) and the other was the big fry. Both were fantastic, clean(not greasy) and delicious. Thank you.

Great selection of food to choose from. One of the nicest coffees I have tried. Cosy decor. Definitely worth a visit if in the area. Will be going back to try out more of the food they offer.

Visited for lunch around 1pm, it was moderately busy. Food was good but service was very slow, a wait of 30mins from when order was taken .

Great spot for coffee & freshly baked scones with real cream (not the aerosol fake stuff). Staff are all very friendly and the facility is really comfortable with a homely atmosphere. Would highly recommend.
